My Students

I am a physical education teacher of 800 students in a title 1 school. Our school is a very diverse and multicultural environment. They are always excited to come to physical education class to strengthen both their minds and bodies. No matter what may make them each their own special person they always are working together to better themselves and our school community. We often have the older 3rd-5th grade students mentor the younger students while in PE class. This experience is very full filling for both the younger and older students. The older students get to show off their leadership skills and lead by example while the younger students are receiving special personalized instruction from an older peer that they look up to.

My Project

This project will be very beneficial in that it will improve the strength and dexterity of our students. For example, to climb a ladder or rock wall, children must pull themselves up with their hands and arms. This action simultaneously improves their grip, upper body strength, and arm strength. Improved coordination: The act of climbing requires coordination between a child's hands, eyes, arms, legs, and feet. Rock climbing is also a great way for students that like non-traditional activities a way to express themselves and feel great about themselves and what they can accomplish.
