This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are full of potential and smiles. They have disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy and/or emotional disorders but their motivation, love of learning, and participating in gym class does not let any developmental limitations become a challenge for them. They are full of energy and are always trying their best regardless of what kind of day we are facing. For most of my students, gym class is their only outlet to socialize, have some exposure, have a sense of belonging and stay active. Everyday, I hold my students to high standards because I know they are capable of many great things.

My Project

My students love to participate in gym class. I would like to acquire 4 roller scooters so they can exercise while having fun.

Having these roller scooters will motivate my students to participate, stay active and promote overall development.

Acquiring the roller scooters would benefit the students for the purpose of exercising. These scooters require students to swing their arms side-to-side in order to propel themselves, strengthening their upper body. The scooters also serve as a reward for completing an activity. As a result, students attend and learn while improving their overall physical development. At the same time, riding on a roller scooter helps the students with Autism regulate self-stimulatory behaviors.

In addition, having 4 roller scooters allows the students to play together increasing language and socialization. Last, these scooters are safer for their little fingers since they are holding the handlebars. I need these scooters to be able to effectively help my students improve their activity level and their overall physical development.
