Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in Bushwick, Brooklyn and we serve a student population of over 600 students from grades 3K to Grade 8. We have a diverse student body. Most of our students come from low-income households. Over 30% of students are homeless or live in temporary housing.

Our school serves not only as a place of learning, but a safe haven and a space for most of our students to have their most basic needs met.

As the Computer Science teacher, I provide instruction to a variety of grade and students. Many are performing at or below grade level and I'm challenged to create a learning environment that can meet such diverse learning styles. My children are so deserving of academic success and I am committed to giving them whatever support they need to achieve and be all they can be.

My Project

In my Computer Science classes we do fun coding lessons. We've been working with robots and my children are demanding MORE! If I can give them the resources they need - they'll learn. Coding is a very powerful hook for my students and I'm determined to get more robots and learning materials that will give them alternative paths to learning reading, math, and science.

I'm requesting Botley the Coding Robots, Wonder Workshop Dash – Coding Robots, and Wonder Workshop Dash Challenge Cards for Dash Robot.

These robots and resources will be used in my coding lessons. They will give the children robots and coding cards to make the robots do different things. As they code, children also learn logical thinking skills which are critical for all types of learning. Many of my children are ELLs and Special Needs and coding is a way for them to shine and succeed because they can focus on the task at hand and see results fast,

Thank you for your continued support of my students and my teaching!
