This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My upper-elementary Robotics team is full of students who are developing English, literacy, and engineering skills while learning communication and collaboration. Most of our materials are more than 11 years old and we are excited both to refresh and add new components that will extend our design and build options.

This project will provide at least three sensors to each team so they can incorporate touch, color, and distance sensors more effectively in their coding programs and see immediate applications with their robots.

Last year, many of our sensors were no longer working which was disappointing and made it harder for my students to code and troubleshoot bugs in their programs. New sensors will create hands-on, trial and error learning that is so valuable for my students. New sensors will help them level up their coding and programming skills in a way that they can't duplicate without working sensors.

My students work together to share our resources and this project will give us new components such as swivels and pulley systems, so we can engage in problem-solving beyond our current capabilities. We are excited to get extra wheels, shafts, and rubber bands so that we have enough for each team. While so simple, those basics make the rest of our robot construction possible. Thank you for helping provide a significant refresh and expansion for my students. We can't wait to design, build, test, and try again with these new materials!
