This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Most of my students are English-learners, with some who are new this year to school in the U.S. Many have extremely limited resources and are excited to learn and help each other succeed. They worked all year to build, test, rebuild, and improve robots to participate in VEX iQ tournaments. Most of our robot parts are more than 10 years old, which means that our electronics are well-used and wearing out.

We need updated electronics so that our team can be on equal footing with other teams.

Currently, teams take turns using our generation 2 parts. We have found that gen 2 components connect and communicate with controllers better and are easier to program. This grant will enable each of my teams to have a gen 2 robot brain, controller, and battery so that they can start the year with current basic building blocks for our robots.

Extra metal shafts will fill a gap that teams noticed this year. Since we didn't have enough metal shafts, we reserved them for the most essential wheels and motor for each robot, and used plastic shafts for our 2nd set of wheels.

Since all of our other building materials are compatible with upgraded electronics, refreshing electronics and adding metal shafts is the most-cost effective way to update our program.

We are excited for next year's competitions and can't wait to have gen 2 components so that we can program and control our robots more effectively. Your generosity makes a tremendous impact on our students and our program, especially as we get ready for a new school year and robotics season.
