My Students

Our school is one of the most diverse in the district. We have a large population of students who speak English as their second language. Our entire school population gets free lunch and many of our children come from a very low socioeconomic background. Our school is the 5th smallest in the district out of 50 plus schools.

Our awesome school is one of the top elementary schools in Columbus with a CCRPI score of 6 out of 32 schools.

My Project

We are beginning Robotics at our school and joining a beginning league to compete. We use the Lego EV3 kits to construct, collaborate, and program our robot to conduct certain missions and earn points in competition. These specific kits are used by the First Lego League in which we are members.Computer programming offers an opportunity for a future career in a world that has a shortage of skilled coders and programmers. Coding can help with other subjects, too—coding can improve soft skills like perseverance and problem-solving that we educators emphasize.

Coding is especially beneficial to students who are struggling with reading and math.

Children have reported that it makes math lessons more fun and meaningful. In addition, students often feel empowered when they can create digital media and share it with others instead of just being consumers of digital media.
