My Students

The students at my school come from all walks of life and when they walk through the doors they know their principal, teachers, support staff and fellow students are all looking out for them.

The teachers at my school want everyone to learn and be passionate about something, whether it be nature, sports, the arts or technology, just to name a few.

Different ethnicities, home lives, spoken languages, socioeconomic backgrounds, parental support and living environments are increasingly characteristic of our school.

My Project

Learning through play is essential in the early elementary years. Adding appropriate technology to that play is a recipe for igniting curiosity, discovery and problem-solving at an early age.

Students in grades K-2 will have the opportunity to learn hands-on about robotics and coding through play.

Small groups of students will be guided through robotic building and play with the requested materials. Kids will start their robotics journey with the Kids First Robot Engineer Kit and learn firsthand about simple machines and gear trains through the use of an accompanying storybook and included parts. Each adventure in the book allows kids to learn something new about robots and machines as they create the featured robots. The journey continues with the Code and Go Robot Mouse Activity Set that focuses on the simple programming of the included little mouse. The included activity and coding cards guide kids through the process. The end of the journey allows kids to apply what they've already learned and expand their capabilities with robotics and coding by using Dash and Dot, two programmable robots from the Wonder Workshop kit. Kids will learn about interactive coding through hands-on play taught by the robots themselves. School iPads and a free app from Wonder Workshop will be used as the programming vehicles.

These small learning groups can occur during the school day (to complement a science unit or as a means of differentiation) or after the school day. Our school offers after school sports and activities for grades K-6 and there is always a need for more age-appropriate activities for grades K-2. Our school also hosts a Math and Science Night, at which these materials can also be used. Family Technology Nights might also be in the works and all of these materials would be perfect!
