Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students get excited to use the Sphero, Dash, Botleys and Code n Go Mice robots that we have in our STEAM lab. However, the current layout of our lab does not have any shelving to make the technology readily accessible to students, resulting in a loss of instructional time as they wait for their teachers to access the materials from various spaces inside the room, particularly when switching grade levels from period to period with virtually no set-up time in between classes. Having the technology readily available and organized into shelving will allow the students to become more independent and maximize the amount of time spent engaged in projects, rather than waiting around.

My goals for this project are to have an organized space where students can take ownership and independence as they progress through different robot and technology uses throughout their years utilizing the STEAM lab.

They will learn to be more efficient in their roles helping to keep their learning materials organized and their technology charged at all times.

My students are special because our STEAM program is a true model of equity. We are not limited to special clubs or after school times which exclude the majority of our population. Our program is built to include STEAM instruction throughout every student's regular school day. We are a a Title I school, where more than half of our student population come from financially disadvantaged homes. We are also an ethnically diverse school and take pride in the fact that our all inclusive STEAM program serves our general education, special education (ICT and Self Contained) as well as our Gifted and Talented learners.
