My students need a new Lego Mindstorms robot to continue their quest for ultimate robot dominion and STEM learning!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Hollman's classroom raised $399

My Students
Star Wars. Lord of the Rings. The Matrix. Everybody loves a trilogy... and Robot Invasion 3 will hopefully be the climax to our own adventure story! We need your help expanding a robotics program that we began thanks to DonorsChoose!
The kids at our public elementary school here in the Bronx run the gamut of ages, needs and backgrounds.
As a special education teacher, I work with children who have autism or various learning disabilities, but all of them have shown a talent for something, be it music, art, or building and constructing things. As a robotics coach here as well, I also work with a group of verbally agile gifted kids who always require a new challenge.
Our school has had a First LEGO League robotics team that many of the gifted kids enjoy, and I've created my own robotics club using robot kits that I've obtained through DonorsChoose. All of our students, from a severely autistic child who showed a talent for building with Lego to our school's valedictorian, have been able to work together on robotics projects thanks to the generosity of the online donors who have helped me thus far. (I thank you all again for your kindness.)
My Project
Our school now needs a new LEGO Mindstorms Education NXT Base Set so that our First LEGO League (FLL) team can progress to a whole new level and so that I can bring the thrill of robotics to even more deserving children! We're in desperate need of an upgrade to our current Mindstorms kit so that our team can stay competitive in the increasingly popular world of FIRST LEGO League robotics tournaments. We've always made the state finals, but next year we want to advance to the FLL World Festival, the next triumph awaiting our young roboticists. With your help, this could be our time at last!
With a second Mindstorms kit, we could also introduce the excitement of the LEGO League to the children who aren't on the team. While our team trains with one robot, the children in my robotics club could use the other robot to expand their building and programming knowledge. In doing so, we'll be inspiring an interest in science and engineering to as many kids as possible!
We need this kit now more than ever, especially in light of a recent setback.
Sadly, a box containing many key electronic LEGO Mindstorms parts has mysteriously gone missing from our school. Since we're very cautious with our materials, we're baffled and a bit shocked by this turn of events. Fortunately, we have enough LEGO bricks and electronic parts for our FLL team to continue on. With this last Robot Invasion project, our team will be better than ever, and our morale will remain strong!
