Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our school competes in "FIRST" Robotics, (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). Students design, prototype, and build robots to compete nationally. A Makerbot Replicator 2 printer will allow us to prototype detailed parts while immersing students in cutting edge technology
Our school is a Title 1 school located in Scottsdale, AZ.
Our students come from a diverse demographic background ethnically and economically. Our robotics team is a congress of students from grades 9th through 12th grade, with varied interests and skills. Most students have very little mechanical skills, and learning and using engineering technology excites their interest in STEM fields.
Our goal is to show students that science, technology, and problem-solving are not only fun and rewarding, but are proven paths to successful careers. Students involved in these endeavors are significantly more likely to attend college, major in science or engineering, and be outstanding future employees and citizens.
My Project
Our school is looking to develop a higher interest in STEM education as an overall goal. Specifically engineering technology and computer interfaced design is taught and used not only by our robotics team but also through courses like; CIS105, Computer Information Systems (a college credit course), computer repair, computer programming and gaming software and development.
The robotics team will be a major user of the makerbot replicator 2 printer; as part of every competition is the design and prototyping of specific custom parts applicable to a competition challenge. The robotics students have access to CREO cad design software which allows designs to design prototypes.
Until now we have not possessed the ability to create accurate prototypes. The addition of the Makerbot Replicator 2 printer will take us from the stone age to the space age. The Makerbot Replicator 2 printer will be accessible to other departments as well, example: fine arts, and science.
The Makerbot Replicator 2 printer will become a key cog in melding science, technology, engineering, and math STEM principles.
The excitement of the robotic competitions and the integration of technology like the Makerbot Replicator 2 printer, champions the ultimate sport for the mind. Students will master skills and concepts to aid in learning science and technology, using the Makerbot Replicator 2 printer with innovative projects and robotic competitions; while gaining valuable life skills.
