This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a STEAM school. STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. We are a Title I school serving approximately 430 students and are located in central Phoenix, Az. Our signature program helps our students grow to be communicators, designers, problem solvers, and innovators. Our students are amazing! They have had many challenges thrown their way this year, but they do not let it get them down. They inspire others to never give up because each and every day, they manage to triumph even with all the odds that are stacked against them. Our students have the best attitudes and mindsets. They are extremely resilient and get back up each and every day and try again. Even if they fall flat, they don't let it keep them down. My students need to be recognized for those positive behaviors and going above and beyond. We need to remind them that they are still kids and can enjoy the small things that bring them joy through their hard efforts.
My Project
I would like to provide our students a PBIS school store to shop for awesome prizes. As of now, we are providing incentives and shout outs for nominated students during our morning announcements. Each school day all students are provided with an opportunity to receive a R.O.A.R. ticket that awards points. R.O.A.R is an acronym where the R stands for practice Respect, the O is for Outreach, the A is for Achievement, and the R is for Responsibility. All students have a chance to receive points here on campus by any staff member. Students are awarded points through a ticket system for modeling good behavior and practicing achievement. Recently my campus moved to using a PBIS Rewards site / app which is an immediate point accumulation for our students when they earn a R.O.A.R. digital ticket which makes them eligible to redeem for a fun hands on prize. Students are then able to redeem collected points for some awesome prizes such as fidget toys, puzzles, LEGO bricks, etc. from our school store that we would like to create. These incentives are a great way to promote desired behaviors, increase academic achievement and establish positive student-teacher relationships as they are items that they have earned and worked towards. I would love to give them the option of these fun prizes and make it a true school-wide PBIS store. These prizes will help get our PBIS store started. As part of our school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions Supports (PBIS) we provide lessons on how to practice positive behavior across our school campus. We want to fill our PBIS store with fresh prizes our students want! Using this store will help our students learn more about buying & saving, counting up & counting down, and learning how to practice citizenship.
