This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our classroom of first graders, you will find 28 students and each one contributes something special and unique to our classroom community. We have many personalities in our first grade classroom that keep us on our feet and laughing everyday. Many of our students are English language learners. Our students attend a Title 1 school in an urban community. We strive to develop their literacy skills and foster a love of reading within them.

Our little first graders work everyday to strengthen their decoding, fluency and comprehension when reading books at a level that is just right for them.

Developing reading skills is a big task for any six year old, especially when English is a second language. Students must be exposed to the sound of the language, the way it is used and the vocabulary of the language. By donating to this project, you will be supporting the literacy and language development of 28 of our talented, hard-working and spunky first grade students!

My Project

Our school is dedicated to supporting the needs of our population of students, including the English Language Learners in our classrooms. English Language Learners makeup more than half of our school's population. The headphones, audio player and audio books will be used by our first grade students during centers to strengthen fluency, concepts about print and to increase language exposure.

Our first graders growth in reading can be facilitated by simply hearing the English language within the context of their books.

Our little ones will increase their vocabulary acquisition and strengthen/practice their fluency in an engaging way. Our first grade friends will also practice their listening skills as they use these materials during center time. By donating to this project, you will be contributing to the growth of our first grade readers, speakers and listeners. They will gain the confidence they need to consistently practice their reading habits and use the English language to share their ideas and thinking in our classroom.
