Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low income/high poverty school where 100% of the children are either on free or reduced lunch, my students are faced with challenges inside and outside the classroom. They love to dance, love to read, and love attention. Most of them do not receive any of those things at home. In this area, the children are being raised by their grandparents or live in a single parent home. This might prevent them for getting ahead early in life, and the children come in lacking in their academic and social skills. They come in Kinder already behind.

I want to help my children grow and expose them to an inviting and text enriched classroom.

They are all creative and eager to learn. I may not be able to change what happens outside the classroom, but I sure can change it for them inside the classroom. I want to create a positive academic experience for our early learners. I want them to beg to come to school instead of sigh. I want to start them on that path at an early age to academic excellence.

My Project

My students need hands on learning experiences with books. The students need to be able to listen to engaging stories while turning the pages. My listening library is very limited and the children love being able to use it. I would like some new books to keep them excited in learning.

Listening centers were my favorite as a child!

They are so engaging. I love to watch the excitement in them. The voices and pictures take you places that you have never been. I would love for my students to have that engaging opportunity to enrich their imaginations by books.
