Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We live in a melting pot of identity, race, and culture. Reading aloud builds a sense of community and unity. They give students a chance to connect, react, process, and discuss topics new and familiar. Rich read-aloud books bring forth some of the most important learning in the classroom through open conversations.

Seeing yourself, or those in your community, represented in texts read aloud is like having a mirror or a window.

It allows you to explore your own identity and/or gives students a chance to discuss their life experiences. Read Alouds should represent the diverse population in your classroom. Having representational read alouds is essential when building a strong classroom community full of life long learners. We have deeper conversations when students can connect to the topics being explored. Rich conversations will be accomplished with books such as Dreamers, I Walk with Vanessa, What do you do with a Problem, Abuela and so many more!
