Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Project Overview: In this project, 9th-grade students will work in groups of 5-6 to create choreographies that combine basketball dribbling techniques with expressive movements. The goal is to improve dribbling skills while fostering creativity and teamwork. The final project will be presented in front of classmates and teachers, combining athleticism and choreography.

Objective:

Develop basketball dribbling skills (control, change of direction, speed).

Foster creativity and teamwork in group choreography.

Integrate dribbling with expressive dance-like movements.

Enhance physical fitness, rhythm, and coordination.

Build presentation and performance skills.

Project Steps:

Weeks 1-2: Students practice basketball dribbling techniques (both hands, change of direction, and speed). They also learn choreography basics (timing, rhythm, and body movements), then start brainstorming their routine ideas in groups.

Week 3: Groups will refine their choreography, focusing on syncing dribbling with music. Peer feedback will help improve routines.

Week 4: Groups will rehearse with music, preparing for the final presentation. On the last day, they will showcase their routines in the gymnasium, performing in front of the class.

Justification for Equipment Purchase: For a successful presentation, a high-powered speaker is necessary for the large gymnasium to ensure the music is loud enough for everyone to hear. Smaller, portable speakers will be needed during rehearsals to allow groups to practice in smaller spaces. These speakers will help ensure that the groups stay in sync with their music during practice and final performance.

Assessment Criteria:

Integration of basketball skills into choreography.

Creativity and originality.

Synchronization with music.

Teamwork and communication.

Final performance execution.

This project combines physical activity and creativity, helping students develop both athletic and artistic skills while enhancing their teamwork and presentation abilities.
