Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach kindergarten at a Title I, Alabama Reading Initiative School. My school consists of 74% free and reduced lunch and 42% of its students come from ethnic backgrounds.

Most of the students I am blessed to get to teach come from homes where there is no background knowledge to build upon entering kindergarten. Most of it starts at school. Research shows that students who can learn to rhyme will become more successful readers. That's why I am asking you to help me provide activities for my students to practice rhyming and to know the importance of it! My proposal will provide just that!

While I am teaching small groups, the other students in my classroom are doing literacy centers and activities. I would love to have some fun and exciting rhyming activities for my students to work on while doing centers. Since I have already introduced the rhyming skill these activities will just increase and reinforce that skill. My proposal includes the "What Rhymes?" Game, Search and Find Rhyming Bags, and the Rhyming Books from Lakeshore Learning. All of these activities are easy to use which would benefit all of the levels of my students.

I want to thank you in advance for helping me provide my students with the chance they deserve to learn to rhyme and become successful readers and students for all of their years to come.
