I teach an amazing group of 3rd graders! We have book clubs to expose my kids to all genres. I was amazed at the diversity of interests! I want to be able to give each one of my kiddos a book that they WANT to read!
Children read what they are interested in and being able to choose a book they want to read AND be able to keep it is the perfect solution!
I have set up a PBIS reward system where a child is given the opportunity to earn an Amazon gift card to use to buy a book. Children will be awarded by the number of hours and minutes they have read using daily assigned reading homework which I track. By counting hours and minutes allows for all my students to have an equal chance to earn a gift card. I have some outrageously good readers that devour books, but I want my struggling readers to feel inspired.
My students are SO excited about this reward system and feel good about earning a reward. I want my students to earn books. I want my students to READ!
I can hardly wait to invite the first child to earn an Amazon gift card to the computer to shop for their book.
