This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are extremely motivated by the desire to succeed in the math classroom. Despite their gaps, they strive forward on all assignments and show the hunger to learn new concepts, strategies, and mathematics in general.
Diverse in many ways, our students are encouraged to engage in mathematical discussions that challege them to justify their responses.
We have students with IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) and special needs. Our students love learning, love the learning process, and love the environment we've created for them.
My Project
We use a reward-based system in our classroom to support and promote positive behaviors, mathematical discussions, and purposeful group work. We want the rewards to reflect the hard work that our students put in day in and day out. Our students get motivated even more when they see our candy/snacks supplies restocked and when we show off the prizes they can win. We want to diversify the pool of prizes to increase the buy-in and excitement in our room. We've seen an increase in all the behaviors we want to see, we just want to keep this going forward throughout the rest of the school year.
