My Students

Our school is a public transfer high school that offers internships and in-house classes. Our students are artsy, musical, and curious about the world. They are very into hands on projects and learning experientially. Our school is also in the consortium, so our students create a portfolio for graduation of their best projects.

Our talented, musical, artistic students often come from schools where they have encountered some type of obstacle in their success.

Our goal is to make projects connect to their world so they can see the importance of learning about science. In our classes, students first learn about the subject and then use what they learned to design their own experiments. The scientific paper they write can be edited multiple times and presented in front of a panel as one of their graduation requirements.

My Project

I am starting an attendance incentive pilot in my advisory this year and have created school dollars the students can save up when they successfully make it to school. Students can then choose from the menu of prizes they would receive for perfect attendance throughout the semester and year. We have a lot of inexpensive prizes listed, and I need some help getting rewards like Cup of Noodles, cookies and more. I also want to reward students who learn to save up their school dollars for larger prizes and those are also listed on the proposal. I think the Amazon Fire tablet is a great prize for those students who love to read.
