This year in middle school, I would like to have a positive reinforcement system in place. Research shows that rewarding good behavior and providing students with an opportunity to feel successful in the classroom, without providing a grade, can be greatly beneficial, especially for students who struggle to keep an A in class, but have great behavior and work hard. In order to be more proactive with behavior interventions, creating a positive reinforcement system can be a fun way for students to hold themselves accountable for their actions. Positive reinforcement provides an outside stimulus to increase the likelihood that a behavior will occur again.
A positive classroom environment helps children feel happier and more confident.
Confident children are more likely to follow their teachers’ direction, take pride in their achievements and develop social skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Every time a student shows good behavior, respects/ helps others, gets an A on a test, walks quietly in the hallway, completed their work in a timely manner, etc. will receive a Bulldog Buck. At the end of each month, I will open up a Bulldog classroom “store,” and the students can trade in their Bulldog Bucks for items, certificates, school supplies, etc. With your help, I will be able to have meaningful items that the students would have to work for by showing good behaviors.
