My Students

I have the most amazing class of fifth graders. They are hard workers with a variety of backgrounds. They bring their unique qualities to build a classroom and community of caring individuals. We live in a bedroom community to a larger city. Most of our class is within walking distance to our school.

Critical thinking is a goal for our students this year.

Having the opportunity to code Sphero robots will create thinkers that will grow into adults that will think broadly. It gives students opportunities to apply ​critical thinking in a less structured environment. Coding robots allows students to learn using a variety of experiences.

My Project

We have learned how to use coding in our classroom, but this will give students an opportunity to use their skills in a situation that would appear more interesting to students.

They will be able to problem solve, use team work and code all in one activity.

These are skills that our students need to master to be learners in a more technical world. We want to create learners for the future and not just in elementary school.

Coding the Sphero robots gives students the opportunity to gather data, adjust their thinking, and create solutions to their assigned problems. It will be so much fun they won't even know they are learning so many skills.
