This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

An often stigmatized and overlooked health and hygiene crisis is about the feminine hygiene product. People don't like to talk about every female's basic need for pads, tampons, and cleansing cloths. Like me, my incoming freshman girls probably worry about this throughout the month. When their periods will come, will it hurt and will it be manageable? There are so many questions we all ask ourselves that contribute to a load of personal healthcare stress every single month.

I wish to alleviate one of the many stressors that women experience each month by providing my freshmen ladies in need with reusable period underwear to keep.

I remember the panicked feeling of forgetting my pads or tampons at home. It can do much more than ruin an entire day. Imagine being a young girl, already dealing with social pressures, and having to suddenly cope with the dreaded red stain during class. I don't want any of the young women at our school to ever experience that world of embarrassment.

Please help me by giving these young ladies these essential products. Health and hygiene go a long way in ensuring a nice school day. Would you be productive if you had just gotten your period in class and didn't have a way to manage it? Would you be able to concentrate, produce, and be creative when your mind is wrapped up in the fact that you're in pain and without support? Likely no. While I cannot provide them direct pain relief (only a school nurse can do this), we can provide them relief from the worry of lack of products by funding this project together.
