This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 4th graders are creative, enthusiastic learners, and they love to think outside of the box! Instead of wrapping up our geography unit with a test, for example, we created 3D maps of our beloved state, painted, labeled, and added unique and personal touches that illustrated all we'd learned about maps, land forms, and Texas regions. We concluded our poetry unit by hosting a "poetry cafe," complete with "coffee" (hot cocoa) and rich literature read out loud by our student writers.

My Project

Operation Frog Effect is an engrossing novel with rich characterization. It is my pick for our beginning of year read aloud. Reading aloud to students is a daily routine I intend to continue during distance learning.

However, the kids won't be engaged in passive listening.

We'll delve deeply into this story by tracking character growth and change, themes, and point-of-view. We'll look at mentor sentences from the novel to learn grammar rules and study author's craft to compose strong personal narratives.

It's one book that will provide us many opportunities for learning throughout the year.
