We need help to revive our High School Library! We are working to rebuild our library's selection of graphic novels and we need your help. It is time to give our students books to inspire them in a library that will foster independence to choose their own reading. Students need access to resources that help them develop their interests and strengths at their level. A great way to provide this is with graphic novels.
Graphic Novels are the gateway drug to Reading!
Students in our district like those across the nation are struggling readers. Graphic Novels are an approachable format for emerging readers. They also have the added benefit of being written in a variety of genres so our readers’ interests will be reflected in what they choose to read. Graphic novels are engaging, especially for reluctant readers. We want to provide students with a way to feel successful. The illustrations add extra support for students who may need help visualizing while reading. When students can see what’s going on, they will get sucked into the story. The skills developed with graphic novels are a gateway for students to advance their abilities and make gains in their reading life.
