Restocking Glazes to Reignite Our Ceramics Program

My Project

I love my students’ creativity, curiosity, and eagerness to explore new artistic processes. They are passionate about hands-on learning and thrive when given opportunities to express themselves through art.

Our school serves a diverse group of students, with 37% English Learners and 54% receiving special education services (IEPs).

Art provides a universal language where all students, regardless of background or ability, can communicate, explore, and succeed.

By restocking our ceramic glazes, my students will be able to fully experience the glazing and firing process, transforming their clay pieces into vibrant, finished artworks. These materials will allow them to experiment with color, layering, and texture—essential skills in ceramics. This project will also provide multisensory learning opportunities that support students with diverse learning needs, helping them develop fine motor skills, patience, and confidence.

My goal is to revive our ceramics program after COVID-19 cancellations and provide students with the resources they need to create, problem-solve, and build confidence in their artistic abilities. Many of my students have never had the opportunity to work with ceramics, and this project will give them a chance to bring their ideas to life in a lasting, meaningful way.

What makes my students special is their resilience and enthusiasm. They embrace challenges, support each other’s creativity, and take pride in their work. With these glazes, they will not only learn valuable technical skills but also experience the joy of seeing their hard work come to life in the kiln.
