My Students

I teach in a suburban school in a district with school choice. While some of my students come from middle-class families, many of them live in impoverished neighborhoods with little access to the tools they need to be successful in the classroom. While the district has worked to give them devices, I need the tools to be able to differentiate digital content to best support their in-person and remote learning (for those who must quarantine).

Teaching students to collaborate is one of the key components of my classroom.

Students are encouraged to work together to investigate texts and craft various genres of writing. Creativity is encouraged and my students love to demonstrate their understanding in many ways --when they have the supplies to do so.

My Project

We returned to school this week for teacher workdays, selling parking passes and chrome book distribution, and open house. While some students are rolling with the punches more than others, many are very nervous about returning to in-person learning...especially in light of the variants. You can help me settle their nerves by providing PPE beyond what the school systems and my students' families have already.

Students need responsibly prepared in-person learning - a return the rigor, relevance, and routine to move beyond 20 months of uncertainty!

Many of my students do not have disposable masks and so reuse the same cloth masks from day-to-day. My students are all receiving devices this year to use both in the classroom and at home. Experience with this last year taught me that many do not know how to safely clean the devices - yet another measure that will help reduce exposure and transmission. Finally, in a building where the HVAC is prone to fail from time-to-time, the air filtration system will protect me and my students regardless.
