This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The students who will be leading this project are in our medical magnet's EMR ( Emergency Medical Responder Program.). Their dream is enter the medical field and have a life long career. The students are of mixed diversity most coming from Haiti and will be the first in their family to go to college and have careers. They are not dreamers, they are doers and though they struggle financially they work hard to succeed. They have devoted years to their community, they understand their civil responsibility, and most of all they are passionate and motivated to help people everywhere.
This project is the epitome of teamwork as the students work together during a crisis. The students involved are in the medical magnet and are setting their life long goals on careers in the medical field. Working together during a mock emergency will teach the students how to use their skills as a first responder and learn how to assess and treat a victim before help arrives, ultimately saving lives. As they work in their emergency unit teams they learn how to empathize with a victim who is hurt and using their emergency training can lead to more lives saved and defusing a dangerous situation while reassuring a victim and families fears. No matter the setting the students will be trained and knowledgeable in those skills that make life changing endings.
Our goals are that all of us are CPR trained, First Aid trained and skilled to respond to any emergency, where there are multiple people ill or injured. We will have no fear but be able to act during a crisis with training and calm and therefore saving lives and leading us to our dream careers in the medical field.
Our medical magnets mission is to create leaders in the health care field and in our community. We will use this opportunity to be leaders during a crisis and assist those who need help. We want to have leadership skills so we can direct people to safety, allay their fears and hopefully save lives. This leadership opportunity will allow us to be prepared and proactive, before a crisis.
This project has our heart because there have been so many horrible things happening in our society with guns. We wanted to make a difference in our school and community by being part of the solution and not the problem. The challenge we hope to solve is having more young adults ready to respond with training then respond in fear. We are proactive, we want to be prepared and not let fear in a crisis and scary situation to overtake us.
