This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative and talented artistically, but lack confidence in academics. AP courses can be particularly daunting for them.
My students are especially eager to learn and have the great attitude and work ethic needed to be successful in AP Language, but need the books for the course.
I want to make sure my students have challenging texts that put them on par with other school districts. They are the best and deserve the best curriculum.
My Project
Usually for AP, I have the students purchase one strong text that is part of their summer assignment and that we use as reference all year. I use my personal Amazon account and never have them pay more than $10 and I make up the difference. Because of COVID-19, this year is different. Now, I won't see my students before summer begins.
With the quarantine and economic downturn, we cannot buy these needed texts on our own.
I am hoping now to have a class set of the books to use during the fall and adjust how we usually use them. I have found these books to be so helpful in understanding the concepts and most especially in preparing them for college.
