Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an inspiring, loving, and creative class of second grade bilingual students! Beginning my career as an educator in Southeast DC, I have loved getting to know my incredibly diverse and brilliant group of students. As I conduct all of my lessons in Spanish, I am excited to encourage the importance and beauty of their identity and culture in my Latinx students. For my non-Latinx students, it broadens their horizons and exposure as well.

Our classroom is focused on using a social justice lens to have conversations about identity, race, and equity, as issues of racism and classism particularly affect many of my resilient students.

We also foster critical thinking and creativity through our learning in Spanish language arts, math, science, social studies, arts, and social emotional learning. As a Spanish teacher, my resources are extremely limited, and every little bit of support helps infinitely in helping me be the best teacher for my students.

My Project

As a Spanish teacher in Southeast Washington DC, I am having to do a lot of developing in terms of curriculum, creating resources, and designing lessons for my students that come from very diverse backgrounds, and most of them would not historically have access to a bilingual education, and exposure to a second language and world of cultures.

Being able to have TPT materials to help students solidify their literacy skills, whether it be in their native language or their second language, will be an amazing asset for our classroom.

We also have a token economy where students can earn prizes for positive behavior and being an exemplary role model, and some of these toys and incentives for them to stay focused in the classroom and put a lot of effort into their work. Any little bit helps in supporting our amazing students with having the resources that they deserve and we are extremely grateful for the help!
