My Project

Resources Equals Success

In order for our students to succeed, they must have the necessary resources to explore and expand their learning to meet grade level standards.

Our students come from very humble settings. 15-18 students are currently in temporary housing. They already lack many things at home, so it is only fair that we can offer them the tools they require to learn. Our students are also struggling readers and will benefit from more decodable literature.

Our school is located in Brownsville. More than 95% of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price meals, and many live in temporary housing. Our ICT class lacks both a special education teacher and the necessary equipment to compensate.

My students struggle with communication, reading, and writing. Despite this, when we give them tools or objects with which to engage and practice, the light in their eyes indicates that they are eager to try them out. My students are warriors!

In our classroom, we constantly seek ways to promote interactive reading and writing. We are looking for ways to make reading more pleasurable and accessible for our students. Having a printer in our classroom will allow us to print additional literature activities because the office only has one printer for the entire building. It usually takes a whole day to print any worksheets. We also do not have any math workbooks, therefore our math sheets must be printed and copied. A printer would be really handy in our classroom. When writing, sometimes students get tired of writing in the same notebook. Whenever we say dictation, they eagerly take out their boards because it provides a more interactive experience. We routinely utilize pencils and dry erase markers in our classroom, however some of our children lose them. We can't always replace them.
