My Project

My school is a large inner-city middle school with approximately 850 low-income students from all over the world. Eighty-four percent (84%) of our student body fall into the State “high needs” category with 75.6% economically disadvantaged, and 21.5% students with disabilities.

My classroom provides a calm atmosphere for students who are experiencing an emotional or behavioral disconnect and need a space to review school expectations, refocus, and reset for success.

Our school uses PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports to incentivize our young people to follow expectations.

These supplies for social emotional learning will be used to help all of the students in our building. While our families are working extremely hard to provide for their children in these times, they are not able to provide school supplies or donations to the school.

The school supplies I need help with are; zippered binders (a must for middle school), Zerowater filtration systems and filters to cut down on plastic bottle waste since bubblers are no longer working. An ice machine to keep water and dairy for the kids cold. A sno-cone machine for special events. The relaxing dorm chairs, bubble timers, textural pop-bracelets, mindfulness activities, earbuds and multisensory toys will aid students who are experiencing anxiety, grief, and frustration. I have asked for a rolling laptop stand to accommodate students who have difficulty sitting for long periods due to their disability. And finally, I am asking for a printer, and ink for those students to access the curriculum and print out their classwork/homework, and level the playing field for struggling students.
