My Students

Do you remember what it was like to not have what you needed to do a report, project or enough information to write an essay? My first graders have not had the opportunity to do research in my classroom using technology.

I have a class with 26 students with varying backgrounds and needs.

I have children who don't speak English, gifted, and students who just need that extra push to get to the next level. The computer I inherited is over 10 years old. Our district in Los Angeles won't even service them because most of the programs on it are outdated. I need to use current programs and websites that will correalte with our online components of our curriculum.

My Project

With a new iPad II, my students will be able to go online and work on class projects, research current topics we're studying, access our Math and Reading program websites that reteach lessons, enjoy animated voices and cartoons which make learning fun, and work on word processing skills. It is imperative that my first graders start working on a classroom computer since many of them don't have access to one at home. Without a computer lab at our school, I feel like my students are starving for technology and need to learn the important tools an iPad can teach them. With only one computer in my classroom that can access the Internet, we don't have any opportunities to do research. Some of my students have no access to computers at home or have a tough time getting to a public library and cannot often do the assigned projects or look up important information on topics we're learning in class. The mobility of an iPad would allow me to move the device between table groups.

With only one computer and 26 first graders, it's impossible to give all of them a chance to research, use the learning games, access their online components of their curriculum and just learn beginning word processing skills.

A new iPad for my students would not only make learning fun, but will give them the access to technology that they deserve.
