My Project

We are a middle and high school engineering program in rural south Georgia. We have been relying on our trusty Ender 3 3D printer for the past few years. Recently we have acquired a new 3D printer. So what happens to our old reliable Ender?

I want to give new life into our old 3D printer by converting it to be our new laser engraver.

The machine still works but as a 3D printer the technology has advanced so much in the past few years it is not able to keep up with newer machines. That machine has gotten us through a lot in our early years as a program and I don't want to add to the electronic waste. All it needs is a laser module and cover to extract the fumes from burning.

By converting it to a laser, it will breath new life into that machine and expand our manufacturing abilities in my engineering classes. A laser engraver/cutter will allow my class to start doing more projects that I can't currently do like cutting thin basswood or cardstock for pieces in our builds. The laser will allow the CAD designs my students make in class become real by using the precision cutting of the laser module.
