My Students

My students are a highly-motivated group of individuals in a challenging, college preparatory program within a high-poverty, urban, comprehensive high school. Most, though not all, of them are either first-generation Americans or immigrants to our country.

We are a bright spot in a troubled district!

My students inspire me to continue to do what I do - which is of course fulfilling - and they motivate me every day. Your generous support of our project will show my students that there are people out there in the world who care about them, too!

My Project

I want my students to have a rich educational experience that includes diverse perspectives. Having copies of these two texts will allow my students to see that different people, from different places around the globe, have a wealth of experiences. Sometimes these perspectives coincide, and sometimes they show readers unknown worlds.

Reading these two non-fiction texts will help my students to gain a better understanding of two areas of conflict in the world.

Persepolis is the story of Marjane Satrapi, who grew up during the Iranian Revolution. Trevor Noah's memoir tells the story of his childhood in South Africa under Apartheid rule.
