My Students
I teach second grade in a small, suburban school that is part of a small, underfunded district. Our school services a cluster of low-income apartments. We gain and lose several students monthly. Many of our students have left for a month or two and returned. Attendance and tardies are a real struggle. Many of my students come from single parent homes and often return to an empty apartment or to the care of older siblings at the end of the school day. Funding is almost non-existent in our school, and parent participation is a struggle.
It is my aim to make my classroom a safe pace of comfort, familiarity and consistently where students can gain the confidence to thrive academically and socially.
I want to expose them to the world they can be part of with a little effort and determination. I hope to give them to confidence and awareness that they can be whatever they set their minds to.
My Project
As we start a new semester it is time to refresh the supplies we use daily and add a bit to our treasure box.
It should not come as a surprise to anyone in a classroom that the pencils, crayons and glue sticks brought at the beginning of the year are long gone as they are used daily in practice worksheets and activities.
Our class set of headphones and mice are in the state you can imagine something with cords and fragile pieces would get into after 3 plus months daily use by 22 7 and 8 year old kiddos. They are in need of a refresher. Lastly, Our treasure box will definitely be in need as we get back in the swing of things at school.
