My Students

As we move through the year, we will talk about the chemical elements. For instance, in astronomy, we talk about nuclear fusion. After a quick look at the Periodic Table on the wall, the kids can see why hydrogen forms helium. We use the Periodic Table for quick reference all year long!

Our students are responsible, nice kids.

Our school is a middle school in Connecticut. It is 7th and 8th grade with a little under thousand students. The kids are grouped in five clusters. Every eighth grader has to enter some sort of a science contest. If it is a project that can be done with a partner, they can work with their friends from another cluster.

My Project

Our students participate in the state Science Bowl competition as one of their project choices. I am one of the coaches for this competition. Although chemistry is not in our curriculum. we spend a lot of our preparation time studying the Periodic Table. These students like the enrichment. They come back and tell me how much they remembered from eighth grade.

A new Periodic Table will be big, bold and up-to-date.

The kids see a Periodic Table and they feel like they are in the world of science! This table can take what is a total mystery at the beginning of the year and make it more familiar and understandable by the end of the year.
