Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Since online learning due to COVID-19, school districts have realized how important computer literacy is and how it can be used to support differentiated learning. We now use our computers for many things including working in Google Classroom and with applications that support learning. Our district is paying for an online reading program, a math program, and a literacy tutoring program.

In order to make the best use of these resources we need working headphones.

In the classroom, students can work independently at their level while I work with small groups of students to support them with their specific learning needs. Most of my classroom is composed of students who are English Learners at various levels; ranging from newcomers to fluent speakers. Thirty percent of my class also has special learning needs such as speech or processing issues. Differentiating for these students is essential in order to help them be the best they can be. I can assign writing, science, or social studies projects using Google classroom which makes it easier for me to review, grade, and provide feedback and support.

Afterschool students participate in Book Nook which is a reading tutoring program that pairs up 4 students with one online tutor that supports them with many literacy skills at their level. I help supervise students during this time and problem-solve technological needs.

All of the technological resources that we have available to us require working headphones. I chose color-coded ones so that I can separate them by table group. In table bins, students can help to pass them out and collect them so that we can maximize important learning time.
