My Students

My students come from various backgrounds, cultures, and countries. Some of the students from other countries came to America within the last year and are still learning our culture, language, and school environment. Most of them are new to music, but they share an interest in learning how to play instruments and are starting to figure out how music can play a very important role in their lives and positively impact their academic performance in other subjects.

Our program is slowly growing as interest gains in the program, but the need for materials for the students who cannot afford them still continues.

My diverse groups seem to all love music and playing their instruments, and for many, playing their instruments with the band is their favorite form of teamwork, community and friendship in a new school where they can sometimes feel like they don't fit in with other classes or don't always understand the material in other classes.

My Project

Every year our band program "eats away" through small items and equipment that seem inexpensive at first, but when you go through many items throughout a year, it gets to be quite costly. On this list you will find some mouthpieces, reeds, disinfectant spray and mallets. These items are very common for replacement expenses at the end of each year.

Even the cheapest items available for our students to use will eventually get damaged or lost and will need replacement.

The better quality items might last longer, but they can be too expensive for what we are able to get.

With these materials received through this DonorsChoose project, we can help to cut down our program expenses that would be saved for larger purchases like instruments and music, and for competition registration, transportation and other things.
