Repetition! Repetition! Repetition! Besides worksheets, smartboard activities, and hands on centers, my kindergarten class needs another way to practice phonics and word family. Using the Listen and Learn centers my students will have a fun and new way to practice.
I have an amazing class.
We are truly a small family. In January we had one of our classmates pass away and my class became stronger. This wonderful group of students became the glue and we stuck together. They love working in centers and work well together. They love to problem solve and are creative. We are a small public school and most of the students come from low income families.
My Project
With the Listen and Learn activities the students will go to the center at least once a week to work on the phonic or word work center. Using headphones and the Listen and Learn Activities the students will practice the phonics and word families. The students already work on using worksheets, smartboard activities, and hands on with me, and this would be another repetition for them. They will learn about the beginning, middle, and ending of words to help them become better and faster readers. Kindergarten is the foundation of all of the grades, so this would make the foundation stronger. By law in my state if a student is not reading fluently by the 3rd grade they are retained. So it is my job to give them a head start.
Research has shown that repetition is important for learning.
By having another center such as Listen and Learn they will have the opportunity to have another way to learn. My students love to try new things and would work hard at this center.
