My Students

I am a elementary school, lower grade science teacher. I will be teacher pre-K- 2nd grade. My students are very special people, who come to school with smiling faces ready to learn. They get so excited every week about coming to science class. My students come from many different backgrounds. Most families are from low-income households. The school is a Title I school which qualifies all of them for free breakfast and lunch. Most of them are recent immigrants and are English language learners. I try to give them many hands-on, real-life experiences during science class. This year has been very different kind of learning. Now that it’s February, we have more students coming back to hybrid learning.

My Project

One of the units I teach in lower grade science is magnetism. How do forces work? Push or pull? Attract or repel? Now that students are coming back to school, we are still facing many challenges in the classroom. Trying to teach science with hands on materials but keeping socially distant at the same time is extremely challenging and frustrating. Students need their own set of materials to learn in the classroom. They are not allowed to share. So having more magnets to share during my lessons will allow my students to be hands on and have fun during science.
