Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 26 of the most amazing fourth grade students who are a dynamic mixture of general education, special education, and ELL students. One thing that makes our school unique is that we are a universal poverty school, so all students are entitled to free meals. We have breakfast in the class, lunch, and many students stay after school so they can have dinner as well. We are in a very rough neighborhood, but my kiddos don't give up!

Many of our students are below grade level by more than one grade level in both reading and math.

Having remote learning due to Covid-19 didn't help matters any either. In many instances, they have to take care of siblings while their parents work multiple jobs, or in some cases are at home alone while parents are at work. I try not to make excuses, but literally, life often gets in their way.

My Project

These materials will make a difference because you can use them in live instruction or in remote learning. You can do small group or whole group guided reading. You can do independent reading assignments as well as assign google classroom activities that go with these high interest, high quality nonfiction articles.

Once you have the appropriate instructional materials, planning and teaching become more effective and much easier!

Scholastic News and Scholastic Science both are connected to Google Classroom so sharing the reading materials as well as creating learning materials becomes much easier. It put the power to learn in the students hands. I cannot say enough about how valuable and necessary Scholastic News and Science are in my classroom, whether we are in the classroom or remote. Please help if you can!
