My Students
My students are creative and eager learners. They come from low-income households and but have a world full of knowledge. This transition to remote learning has been beyond challenging but I've learned so much about my students and their families. Through all of the technical difficulties and chaos, they persevere! Many of my students don't have the capacity, because of technology limitations, to sustain online learning.
For many, we have come to the crossroad, where their parents have to make critical choices about maintaining the internet connection or providing the necessities.
Many don't have devices at home or lack a consistent internet connection. Despite the hardships, many have found a way to stay connected and learning. The news that school would be closed for the remainder of the school year was devastating. When we left school on a Thursday in March, we never imagined that it would be the last time we would be together for the remainder of the school year!
My Project
I have never been an educator that believes that students learn best from worksheet or workbooks. My students need hands-on and engaging ways to continue to learn and be prepared for kindergarten. Many don't have the capacity to maintain online learning so I want to provide them with some of the tools we use in the classroom that don't require a device that is connected to the internet. I am determined to promote equity in learning, no matter my student's economic status or zip code. They deserve the opportunity to access the same resources as anyone else.
