Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in a Title one school, specialized district that teaches students with a wide range of disabilities. My students are in grades K- 2 who have Autism. Children with Autism require repetition and motivation when they are learning. My students need to be taught all concepts multiple times and in various ways in order for them to be successful. My students need to hear sounds, touch materials, see images and engage with the content. My students have been affected by the pandemic in many ways. Most have chosen to remain remote while some are choosing the hybrid model. Both educational models require my students to have engaging materials that are easily accessible and interactive. My students need to practice learned skills daily to prevent regression.

I have high expectations for my students during remote learning, they will all meet their academic goals.

My Project

This transition into remote learning and hybrid models has disrupted the daily routine's that were an essential part of my students academic growth. My students have a mandated 12-month school program in a specialized school district for students with severe disabilities. It has been quite the learning curve since March 2020. We had to do the best we could to continue our learning online. We definitely were not prepared for this new way of learning, but we did our best. Now that we are entering a new school year many of my students have opted for remote learning.

My students have a variety of learning styles, with your help, I can purchase adapted bundles of work that are differentiated for each of their academic goals from the Teachers Pay Teachers website.

Adult modeling and social interactions are very important aspects of our daily learning. With the gift cards I am able to purchase engaging materials that are easily accessible in google classroom. Many of my students have school loaned devices and do not have printers at home, it is very important to be able to provide them with materials that are interactive. This will help me deliver lessons clearly to my students. The materials purchased will be for the subjects that I teach such as, Reading, Math, phonics and Social Emotional Learning.

Having access to these interactive materials would make my student's learning at home less stressful. The materials and content purchased would also be useful to my students when we get back into the classroom as the materials can be easily adapted.
