My Students

Our rural elementary STEAM students in grades K-5 love visiting our STEAM class every week for 60 minutes. It is the perfect space for hands-on learning that integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.

This year, some of our students are learning from home and are not fully able to participate in our robotics curriculum due to lack of resources - I aim to change that with this project proposal!

My Project

Just like my at-school students, my remote learner students will use the LEGO® WeDo 2.0 kits, Sphero SPRK robots, and Dash robots to learn the basics of robotics. We will combine programming skills with engineering challenges involving recyclables that address real-world problems.

During this unit, the students will engage in an investigation that explores careers in STEM.

The IF/then project resources will be used to investigate female scientists' success in the science fields. The RVR Controllers for Women in STEM Project gives provided me with inspiration for this project. Vandi Verma and Ayana Howard were specifically chosen from the IF/Then collection of featured female scientists to inspire us as we explore robotics, highlight females in careers in STEM, and promote student interests in STEM careers.
