This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a public, transfer high school for students who have struggled in a traditional classroom setting. Our school focuses on internships and experiential learning which is a challenge with remote learning. Now that students are sheltering inside their homes I am creatively planning how to maintain their engagement. In addition, they have other responsibilities such as caring for younger siblings and challenges such as sharing technology.

My students need to feel they are still a part of the community and empowered to push for the changes they see need to be made to safeguard the health of our communities and earth.

My Project

Teaching remotely, I need few materials since I can utilize a lot of content online. But, there are some things that need to be printed to share. The ink cartridge help me to print out materials to send them and print other resources from home that help me to engage them in understanding climate science and justice. I also need the whiteboard to use while conducting remote classes and for filming classes for students.

The Teaching Climate Change to Adolescents book offers background information and writing prompts that engage students and support their communication and activism to support climate justice.

This book contains information and activities that are not available online.
