My Students

The students in my class are young and inquisitive. They are culturally diverse and come from different economical backgrounds. My students live in a low socioeconomic area and attend a Title I school, at which over half of the students receive free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch.

In my Math 180 class, many of them are identified as struggling learners in mathematics.

Despite their struggles, they are always ready to take on new challenges.

Every one of my students has the potential to unlock the mathematician in themselves. My middle schoolers enjoy being creative by expressing themselves through hands-on activities and through visual arts. I am impressed with their ability to tackle real life mathematical problems using different types of strategies learned in class.

My Project

Having a Chromebook in my classroom would give my students the opportunity to engage in independently learning. They will be able learn how to manage their time and prioritize assignments. A Chromebook will give the students the opportunity to access interactive websites and to share their incredible work with their classmates and myself. Students would be able to engage in standards based activities and math interventions.

My students are ready to use technology and other resources to become mathematical thinkers.

During the Math 180 intervention class, the students are asked to complete various assignments, with a large part of those assignments requiring technology. This project requests one Acer Chromebook laptop computer.

All my classes will benefit from the easy access to the Internet and to the educational programs. This will aid their ability to complete assignments and projects. Students will have accessibility to our classroom Chromebook during morning and after school tutorials and station teaching activities in class. They can use the laptop for research and to help extend their understanding by connecting the math concepts to real world problems. We will also utilize our Chromebook for enrichment opportunities.
