My Students

Do you remember that first book that really captured your interest? How you felt when you were read to? How you wanted to hear it again and again? How you felt when you realized you were REALLY reading? My students are just starting out on their journeys.

My students are a group of twenty-one extremely passionate learners who strive to improve on a daily basis.

Since we started school they have already demonstrated their abilities to expand their knowledge base. My students show great pride in their accomplishments and with each achievement their confidence grows more and more! They each have their strengths that they bring forth to our classroom each day. Our class is a Title 1 district, which is part of the New York City Department of Education. This means that students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and the majority of our students receive free lunch.

My Project

Many of my students are reading below grade level. My greatest hope for my students is to motivate them to improve substantially so that they have the opportunity to compete and succeed in our ever expanding world! This listening center will not only continue to foster their love of reading but expose the students to stories that are being read fluently. Any amount of time that a child is exposed to fluent reading, they become stronger in that area. This listening center will be used primarily during guided reading groups. This exciting center will afford the children an exciting way to explore literature and to respond to it. The center will target students who need extra attention in certain areas, providing them with a tool that they will be able to freely enjoy.

With your help we can ensure that each second grader has the opportunity to participate in a wonderful reading experience.
