Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a low social-economic school in South-East Houston. My athletes are all minority students with 100% of the school’s population being on free and reduced lunch.

Hurricane Harvey hit our community at the beginning of the school year and damaged 3/4 of our equipment in the athletic department.

With all the inclement weather lately in Houston, it has been extremely hard to be an effective coach during my in/off season without the proper equipment. Funding has been reduced at my school and the district as a whole this school year and I am constantly trying to think of ways to have the damaged equipment replaced in order to prepare for next season.

Having most of my equipment replaced at our school for next season would hopefully help our athletic program become one of the best in the surrounding area. It definitely would give us a better shot to win the district trophy or post-season tournaments. For most of the student-athletes here, the use of athletic equipment is limited. My goal as a coach is to prepare all the upcoming stars that attending H.M.S next school year for the next level and beyond.

My Project

Donating to this project will make a huge difference to our basketball program at Hartman Middle School. Throughout this past season, we fell short due to the proper equipment not being present in practice.

These various items listed below such as the air pump, ball bags, socks, ball blockers, defense mannequin, shot returner, etc., will come in handy next season.

First off, the ball blocker will help us work on head fakes and stealing the ball from the opposing team. Secondly, the defense mannequin will help us improve with our jump shot and releasing the ball before we are called for the charge. Lastly, the shot returner will let us take more shots in rhythm as we wait for the rebound!
