Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching in a low-income/high-poverty school/community, I see how my students are faced with daily challenges. These challenges include poverty, poor health, and parents who may be unable to afford resources such as books, computers, or even family weekend activities that would create positive learning experiences for them.

My students love to read, create, and learn.

I teach a first-grade class formed with 14 girls and 10 boys whose parents may not have the financial resources or time available to provide them with the skills and material needed to prepare them for the careers of the future.

My Project

There are so many complications and struggles COVID-19 has caused within the education system but one major frustration for many teachers like me is the unreliable technology. I need a laptop that would allow me to create and deliver lessons in various subjects through distance learning, including computer science, math, reading, and writing.

As we continue this school year that likely includes more distance learning, my most important learning is that we must transform how we prepare all students to be independent learners and critical thinkers.

To be able to do this I need a reliable laptop. Our concept of “schools” and “classrooms” has evolved, our teaching must change too, as well as the tools we use. With a reliable laptop, my student will be able to receive ongoing opportunities for them to work together on projects created and delivered through different platforms that work with an updated laptop, as well as build persistence and problem-solving skills while working on these projects. Please help me deliver lessons to my students that focus on strategies for learning that they can use throughout their lives.
