Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Thank you so much for your interest in funding my project. Many of the materials will be used for stress-relief and mindfulness activities.

Our school implemented a no cell phone policy this school year and some of the students are still getting accustomed to the adjustment.

At the beginning of each class, students turn in their phones to increase focus and productivity, as well as active participation. The last 5 minutes of class they receive their phones back. So far it has been working great, but some students need materials/ supplies to help them relax and reset. We have 90 minute classes most days and these tools will help students take mini breaks to practice mindfulness.

Items like Calm Strips will help students practice mindfulness. Fidget toys are also good tools for redirecting behavior. Some of the materials will also allow our class to increase productivity when completing team tasks.

The thing I love most about my students is their curiosity to learn, kind hearts and their resiliency. Many of our students face various stressors throughout their day and they manage to push forward and carry on. I would like to help them increase their stress-relief strategies and remind them to take care of their mental health. One of the first things my students learn in my classroom is how health is affected by more than just the physical aspect. We must also take care of our mental, emotional, and social health to truly improve our health and wellness. These materials will give us a jumpstart to do just that.
